When I look at New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s record, it’s clear to me that she isn’t just “tough on gun crime, she’s fundamentally opposed to civilian firearm ownership in almost every form. Her policies, her public statements, and her legislative priorities all point in the same direction: she wants fewer guns in the hands of law‑abiding citizens, even if that means restricting constitutional rights to get there.
Her Entire Agenda Is Built on Expanding Gun Control
Hochul has repeatedly pushed sweeping gun‑control measures, often reacting to national events with state-level crackdowns that go far beyond federal standards. She frames gun ownership as a public‑safety threat rather than a constitutional right, and she consistently argues that stricter laws are the only way to keep New Yorkers safe.
To me, this shows a deep philosophical divide: she sees firearms as inherently dangerous, not as tools for self‑defense, sport, or personal freedom.
She Believes Federal Rollbacks Put “Dangerous Individuals” at Risk of Getting Guns
When the federal government considers loosening firearm regulations, Hochul immediately pushes back. She has publicly criticized federal rule changes that make it easier to purchase firearms, claiming they “open the door” for dangerous individuals to obtain guns.
In my view, this reveals her core mindset: she assumes that more freedom for gun owners automatically equals more danger for society.
She Wants More State Control Over Gun Purchases
Hochul has even proposed laws to block ATF rules that would allow firearms to be shipped directly to buyers’ homes. Instead, she wants every sale to be done in person, adding more layers of regulation and oversight.
To me, this is just another example of her belief that ordinary citizens can’t be trusted with firearms unless the government is heavily involved at every step.
She Pushes “Nation-Leading” Restrictions on New Technologies
Hochul has aggressively targeted 3D‑printed guns, ghost guns, and any firearm technology that bypasses traditional manufacturing. She’s proposed criminal penalties, reporting requirements, and even safety standards for 3D‑printer companies to prevent people from making their own firearms.
This tells me she isn’t just fighting crime she’s fighting the very idea of private firearm ownership evolving with technology.
Her Policies Focus on Limiting Lawful Citizens, Not Criminals
What stands out most to me is that Hochul’s policies overwhelmingly target lawful gun owners and licensed dealers rather than the criminals who actually drive gun violence. She pushes more inspections, more restrictions, more bans, and more hurdles for people who already follow the law.
Meanwhile, criminals who ignore every regulation are unaffected.

From everything I’ve seen, Kathy Hochul’s opposition to firearms isn’t just about safety it’s ideological. She believes government should tightly control who can own a gun, how they buy it, how they store it, and even what kind of gun they’re allowed to have. Her policies consistently restrict the rights of responsible citizens while doing little to stop the people who actually commit violence.
In my opinion, Hochul is against firearms because she fundamentally distrusts civilian gun ownership. And as long as she’s in office, New York will continue moving toward a future where lawful gun owners face more restrictions, more oversight, and fewer freedoms.
