If someone broke your door down in the middle of the night without announcing who they were, what would you do first?

Bunch of big scary people here with their answers right?
Here’s the reality. This happened to me.
Around 3:00 in the morning the door slammed open, I heard someone in my living room. It was a man. My kids were much too young to sound like that.
I come out of my bedroom with the .357 magnum ready, turn the corner, and aimed….
It was one of my town’s local police standing with his feet on the doorway to my foyer. His hands shot up, he ducked a little, and he yelled, “don’t shoot, police.”
I have known Rob for a few years. He once didn’t bother giving me a ticket for tags being expired by a week, and brought my stepson home when he was on train tracks he wasn’t supposed to be on.
I lowered my gun. I felt like an asshole for scaring him.
He began to explain that he was bringing my dog home. Dog had been out wandering the neighborhood. My front door blew open in a wind storm and was banging. He said he announced who he was and tried to wake us. Things were too loud with the wind I suppose, or I was sleeping too soundly.
I was a quarter inch away from killing someone for bringing my dog home.
